Greetings in the name of Jesus.

Mark4:14 the sower sows the word.

                                     SPIRIT SOUL AND BODY

A person who does not submit to God is vulnerable to their flesh, emotions, and circumstances. He who has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls (Proverbs 25:28,amp). His walls of defense are down. He responds to the pressures of life in the wrong way and increases his troubles. But no matter how undisciplined a person is, they can regain rule over their entire being by renewing their mind with the word of God. Romans 12:2. When the spirit ( the reborn person on the inside ) rises up in obedience to God’s word, the flesh has to obey.
God wants to give us a great measure of steadiness, so in the face of adversity we can maintain calm, steady control over our actions. That’s having rule over our spirit. But it requires cooperation on our part. Philippians 4:6-7, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanks giving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. As we renew our minds with the word of God, we become more stable. We start gaining control over our thoughts and emotions.
When we begin to deposit the word into our hearts on a regular basis our thoughts will begin to conform to God’s way of thinking. Proverbs 23:7 As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Proverbs 4:20-24 my son attend to my words, incline your ear to my sayings, do not let them depart from your eyes keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and perverse lips put far from you.
It does not matter what you are like in the natural, the word of God will transform your thinking to His way of thinking. Hebrews 4: 12 says the word of God is alive, Proverbs just said His word is life to those that find them. When we keep sowing the word into our spirit, it will renew our mind and cause us to gain control of our actions.
Hebrews 4:12 and I Thessalonians 5:23 both say we are a spirit, we have a soul (our mind, will, and emotions) and we live in a body. When we are born again our spirit is transformed immediately. But our soul and body was not changed instantly. That is why we must use the word of God to renew our mind, and then we can also change our body if we so desire. Remember Proverbs 4 said it is health to all our flesh.
If we delight ourselves in the word of God, by renewing our minds we become like a tree planted by the rivers of water, we bring forth fruit, our leaf shall not wither, and everything we do prospers.( my short version). Psalms 1:1-3. The storms of life may come, the winds may blow, but we can stay steady if we are grounded in the word. Luke 6:47-49 Whoever comes to me, hears my sayings and does them, he is like a man who laid his foundation on a rock, when the flood arose, it could not shake it, but he who heard and did nothing, immediately his house fell. (my short version). When we receive the revelation of God’s word we begin to think, talk, and act like it is true, then we can receive all the promises that are in it.

But the soul has to be trained. III John 2 Beloved I pray above all things that you may prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. We prosper our soul by renewing our mind with the word of God. In every area of life we have to train to learn to do things differently. We learned to walk, speak, ride a bike. We kept at it until we could automatically do it without thinking, just because it did not work the first time we tried, we did not quit and say, that it does not work. No we kept on until we were able to do it without thinking, and so we can do the same with the word of God.
I heard someone say, the quality of our intake determines the strength of our output. As we meditate the word we grow stronger in our spirit. We begin to control our mind, will, and emotions. II Corinthians 10:5, castings down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing all thoughts into captivity unto the obedience of Christ.
No matter what a person was like before they were born again. If they will renew their mind with the word of God, their thought patterns will change. They will gain rule over their entire being, causing Proverbs 16:32 to come to pass. He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city. So don’t be like a city that is broken down and without walls (Proverbs 25:28). Create a lifestyle of feeding your spirit with God’s word. Be willing to change what you say, so it will line up with what God has said in His word. By doing this we can avoid some mistakes that set in motion things that can cause us trouble in the future.
Another way to rule our spirit: Enjoy only as much natural pleasure as you can afford spiritually. Proverbs 25:16(amp). Have you found {pleasure sweet like} honey? Eat only as much as is sufficient for you, lest, being filled with it, you vomit it. Don’t over indulge in pleasure. We can enjoy things as long as it does not take away our time with God. Being to busy for God will allow us to lose control of our spirit. Mark 4:19, The pleasures of this world choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. As born again believers we know when we are spending to much time on other things. They may not be sinful as such. But if it is taking to much of our time away from God, then it will cause us to lose control of our spirit.
God wants us to go on in Him and fulfill His plan for our life. But we can only do that as we maintain the rule over our spirit, soul, and body. Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Receive the revelation that you can have what God’s word says you can have, your are what it says you are, and you can do what it says you can do. Enjoy only as much natural pleasure as you can spiritually afford.
